Questions to Ask Before Buying a Used Trailer

A simple checklist so you know what you're getting.

Is the title clean?

Make sure the seller has the title and the VIN on the trailer matches it.

How are the tires and bearings?

Look for cracks, uneven wear and dry rot. Ask when the bearings were last greased.

Do the lights and brakes work?

Hook it up and test every light. If it has electric brakes, test them too.

Is the frame solid?

Check for rust, cracks and bent parts, especially near the tongue and axles.

Floor and ramps

Look for soft or rotted boards and make sure ramps and gates work smoothly.
