Buyer guide
How to Choose the Right Trailer Size
Measure what you haul, add room to grow, and match the trailer to your tow vehicle.
Start with what you haul
Measure the longest, widest and tallest thing you plan to carry. Add at least a foot of length so you can load it without a tight squeeze.
Common sizes
- 5x8 to 6x12: mowers, ATVs, small moves and yard work.
- 7x14 to 7x16: landscaping crews, contractors and two-ATV loads.
- 8.5x20 and up: cars, skid steers and larger equipment.
Think about next year
Many buyers outgrow their first trailer. If you are between two sizes, the bigger one usually pays off.
Check your tow vehicle
Your truck's towing capacity must be higher than the loaded trailer weight. Look in your owner's manual or on the door sticker.
